What Does This Course Involve?

  • This course will provide the skills and knowledge required to drive a heavy-combination vehicle, such as Prime movers with an attached single semi-trainer and heavy vehicles with an attached trailer with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) greater than 9,000 kg.
  • Safe driving techniques include systematic and efficient control of all vehicle functions, monitoring traffic and road conditions, managing vehicle conditions and performance, and effectively managing hazardous situations.
  • A Theory Assessment is to be completed before the practical component of the course commences.
  • A 2-day one-on-one practical (on-road) driving experience.
  • Training with an experienced, accredited trainer/assessor.
  • An on-road assessment is conducted on-site by our DoT-approved assessors.

Eligibility to Complete The Course

  • A valid WA C-class licence for at least 3 years and Heavy Rigid (HR)/ Medium Rigid (MR) for at least 1 year.
  • DoT required eye test – there is a minimum requirement for anyone wanting to drive a commercial vehicle; if you do not pass the eye test, you cannot commence training until you have resolved the issue and have been given the all-clear by either the DoT or received a letter from you Optometrist. If you wear glasses or contact lenses while driving, you must be tested wearing these.
  • Medical conditions - If you have any medical condition/s you think might affect your training, please disclose this before confirming your booking; this issue will be referred to DoT for approval of your training, and you may have to undergo further medical checks.
  • Disabilities – If you have any condition, restriction or disability that may impact your ability to learn, i.e. hearing impairment, dyslexia, injured arm, leg, etc., please disclose this information before confirming your booking.
